The Neighborhoods of Seattle You Should Visit

Seattle is full of interesting people and places. In fact, you will find much to do and see in each of its unique neighborhoods. You may also be glad to know that don’t need to spend a fortune sightseeing in these areas. You could spend many days – or even weeks – exploring the neighborhoods of Seattle and still keep your budget intact. The following are a few examples of things you might see and do for free when you visit this city that has something for everyone.

Folk Festival in Lower Queen Anne

At Seattle Center, in the heart of the city, you can go to the Northwest Folklife Festival. This event takes place during Memorial Day weekend every year, and it has been a popular event for nearly fifty years. This festival is a celebration of folk, traditional, and ethnic styles of music, arts, and crafts. The event generally sustains about 250,000 people. Donations from those who attend, as well as community support, enable visitors to be at the festival free of charge.

Gas Works Park in Wallingford

People of all ages are welcome to play at this local park in Fremont. The park gets its name because it is located at the site of a former gasification plant. You can still see remnants from the old plant. Gas Works also features an artificial kite-flying hill, an ornate sundial, and a “play barn” structure for kids. This park has a reputation for being the strangest in Seattle, and it is certainly worth checking out when you are in the area.

Frye Art Museum in First Hill

If you enjoy viewing works of art, you can revel in the fact that the Frye Museum always allows people to visit for free. The museum has a few collections, as well as an ongoing series of exhibitions. You can also take a guided, interactive tour, which is available for no charge, as well.

Free Music Downtown

If you’re in Seattle in the summertime, be sure to take advantage of the Out to Lunch series of concerts. These take place at different venues downtown throughout the summer months. The music genres vary, as well – from Classical to Rockabilly to Jazz to Reggae. This tradition has been a Seattle favorite for decades, and it is a great way for both tourists and locals to relax in the sunshine during the lunch hour.

Seattle is a city with so much to offer. You could visit for an entire season and never get a chance to see everything. This is one of the reasons that so many people travel to Seattle on a regular basis. No matter what season brings you to the Emerald City, you will never be left with nothing to do!
